Ashton bus station
Ashton under Lyne is well situated for users of both public and private transport.
The large bus station adjoins the Arcades shopping centre. Bus routes radiate from here to all parts of the town and to other nearby towns and villages. Long distance express coaches also call.
A short distance away from the bus station is the railway station, situated on the line between Huddersfield and Manchester Victoria.
Manchester Airport, with routes to many parts of the world, is about 15 miles away.

The M60 motorway near The Snipe
The town is conveniently situated for access to the motorway network, being only a mile from Junction 23 of the M60 Manchester Orbital Motorway. The last section of this motorway was opened in 2000 and passes through the western edge of Ashton.
Car parks are situated above the Arcades shopping centre and around the edges of the town centre.

The Metrolink tram in Manchester
In March 2000, the government announced £250 million of funding to extend Greater Manchester's Metrolink tram system. This was to include a line running to Ashton under Lyne.
The proposed new line will connect with the system running through the centre of Manchester, running from the existing tram station in the undercroft of Piccadilly Station, through Ancoats, passing the site for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and past the Cycling Velodrome. It will run along Ashton New Road through Clayton and Droylsden to The Snipe, Audenshaw. It will then run alongside Lord Sheldon Way across Ashton Moss, over the M60 motorway, with a station at Richmond Street, to a terminus at Wellington Road, Ashton, adjacent to the Bus Station.
The line was originally be open by 2002, but funding difficulties mean that the line is being constructed to Droylsden initially, but it is still proposed to continue the line to Ashton when funding is available.
